How to Play Figgerits

Figgerits presents each level as a grid with two components: a set of crossword-style clue slots at the top, and a cryptogram phrase at the bottom. The two parts are linked: each letter you reveal from a clue answer also fills in the corresponding letter every time it appears in the encrypted phrase.

To solve a level, start by answering the clues you are confident about. Each clue has a set of blank squares beside it — type the answer and the letters fill in both the clue slot and the phrase simultaneously. As more letters are revealed, the phrase begins to make sense, which in turn helps you confirm uncertain clue answers.

The cipher works as a simple letter-substitution: each number above a phrase square corresponds to one letter of the alphabet, and that mapping remains fixed across the entire level. So if you discover that position 3 is the letter E, every 3 in the phrase becomes E.

This bidirectional solving — clues informing the phrase, and the phrase informing the clues — is what makes Figgerits so engaging. A completely blank phrase looks daunting, but it fills in quickly once you answer the first three or four clues confidently. Tips for Hard Figgerits Levels

Theo Lindqvist has completed all 1,804 Figgerits levels. Here is what he has learned about cracking the hardest ones:

Do the easy clues first, always. Figgerits has a mix of straightforward vocabulary questions and genuinely obscure trivia. Ignore the hard clues on your first pass. Answer every clue you are confident about and watch how many phrase letters fill in. You often do not need to answer every clue to decode the phrase.

Use phrase word boundaries to your advantage. Once three or four words in the phrase are partially filled, you can often guess the complete word from the visible letters. A phrase word reading _ATER is almost certainly WATER, LATER, or MATER — and confirming that word gives you up to four letters across the cipher key at once.

The theme of the pack often hints at the phrase. A level in the Famous Quotes pack will have a phrase that reads like an aphorism. A Science level will reference something scientific. Keep the pack theme in mind when you have partial phrase letters — it narrows down what the phrase is saying.

Three-letter phrase words are your fastest unlocks. Short words like THE, AND, FOR, NOT, YOU appear frequently in English phrases. If you can confirm one from two known letters, you add up to three new cipher key entries at once.

The verification process involves confirming that each clue answer is accepted by the game (rejected answers produce a visual error that is unmistakable), and that the decoded cryptogram phrase matches what the game reveals at level completion.
